Animalcare’s Daxocox (enflicoxib) receives UK perioperative licence for dogs, enabling its use beyond osteoarthritis to manage pain and inflammation linked with orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, with added convenience of weekly dosing.

Animalcare said Daxocox (enflicoxib) has gained a UK perioperative licence for dogs, extending its use beyond osteoarthritis to pain and inflammation linked with orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. The company describes the product as a COX-2 selective NSAID given orally once a week, with preoperative dosing intended to ensure analgesic cover is already established when surgery begins.

Colin Capner, Animalcare’s senior technical vet, said ahead-of-surgery analgesia can be an important part of perioperative planning. He added that the label change allows Daxocox to be used pre-operatively with confidence, including during surgical preparation, and may help sustain analgesic continuity after discharge.

Animalcare says the product’s weekly dosing and longer duration could also support owners at home, particularly where postoperative pain may affect a dog’s behaviour, mobility or appetite in the first few days. The company notes that full prescribing details are set out in the GB/NI Summary of Product Characteristics.
