Czech pet food giant VAFO Group has acquired Berlin-based Pets Deli, bolstering its presence in the premium segment and enhancing direct-to-consumer offerings across Europe.

VAFO Group, the Czech pet food maker, has bought Berlin-based Pets Deli, deepening its push into premium pet nutrition and direct-to-consumer sales, according to a company statement reported by deutsche-startups.

Pets Deli was founded in 2014 as a premium dog food brand but fell into insolvency in 2017 before being taken over by the Berlin investment house Econa. Since then, the team led by Tania Moser has rebuilt the business around online sales and says it has since passed €40 million in annual revenue.

The deal comes as pet food groups increasingly seek scale, brand depth and wider distribution in higher-margin segments. VAFO has been steadily building its European footprint in recent years, including the full acquisition of German family business Allco Tiernahrung, which now operates as VAFO.de, as well as moves in Poland, Sweden, Austria and Finland. Industry publications have described those transactions as part of a broader strategy to strengthen VAFO’s position across Central and Northern Europe.

For Pets Deli, the transaction should provide a larger industrial and commercial platform. For VAFO, it adds another branded business aimed at owners willing to pay for tailored, premium products.

The purchase price was not disclosed.
