Jaguar Health shifts focus to ultra-rare GI diseases amid revenue decline and licensing deal
Jaguar Health redirects its efforts towards treatment for microvillus inclusion disease and short bowel syndrome following a strategic retreat from US direct sales, as its quarterly revenue drops after licensing agreements with Future Pak.
Jaguar Health said its strategic retreat from direct US sales is helping fund a sharper push into ultra-rare gastrointestinal disease, even as quarterly revenue fell sharply after the handover of Mytesi and Canalevia-CA1 marketing rights to Future Pak.
According to the company’s second-quarter call, Jaguar has already received $18 million in upfront and holdback payments from the licence deal and could earn a further $17 million in milestones, while continuing to manufacture the products. Management says that frees it to concentrate on crofelemer for intestinal failure, where it is pursuing treatment for microvillus inclusion disease and short bowel syndrome with intestinal failure.
Chief executive Lisa Conte said data presented at the ESPGHAN meeting showed reductions in parenteral support of up to 48% in one MVID patient and 40% in two SBS-IF patients after more than a year of therapy, well beyond the 10% to 15% threshold usually regarded as clinically meaningful. The pivotal MVID study is fully enrolled across sites in the US, Italy and the UAE, and the company expects to complete its package by year-end and file for approval in 2027.
Revenue from prescription products fell 60% year on year to about $1.2 million, but operating loss narrowed. Jaguar also highlighted its patent estate and botanical-drug status as long-term protections, while flagging a new animal-health product, Neonorm Dog, for launch later this year.
