Huvepharma’s acquisition of Euroapi Italy boosts European biotech capacity amid operational reforms
Huvepharma has announced it will acquire Euroapi Italy’s Brindisi plant, significantly increasing its biotech production capacity and strengthening its presence across Europe, subject to regulatory approval.
Huvepharma has agreed to buy 100% of Euroapi Italy S.r.l., including the Brindisi plant, in a deal signed on 29 July 2026, according to the Bulgarian company. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including clearance under Italy’s foreign investment rules.
The acquisition extends Huvepharma’s biotechnology footprint in Europe and adds to a manufacturing base that already spans facilities in Bulgaria, France, Italy and the United States. The company says its fermentation capacity will rise by 25% to more than 12,000 cubic metres, reinforcing its position in industrial bioprocessing.
Chief executive Kiril Domuschiev said the Brindisi operation brings together Huvepharma’s current biotech profile and the experience of the site’s workforce. He added that the group intends to use the asset to develop and commercialise new products and dosage forms across veterinary, human health and nutraceutical lines.
EUROAPI had been reviewing strategic options for parts of its industrial portfolio, and previously said Brindisi was part of that process. The site has faced operational scrutiny in recent years: in 2024, EUROAPI suspended production there after quality-control failings, before later saying released APIs met required standards.
For Huvepharma, the purchase fits a long-running strategy of keeping production in-house across its group companies and deepening control over quality, supply and technical know-how.
