DSM-Firmenich appoints Richard Ridinger as new chairman to shift focus towards operational growth
DSM-Firmenich has nominated Richard Ridinger as its next chairman, marking a shift from merger integration to operational delivery following Thomas Leysen’s planned retirement after shareholder approval scheduled for October 2026.
DSM-Firmenich has proposed independent director Richard Ridinger as its next chairman, with Thomas Leysen set to retire once shareholders approve the move at an extraordinary general meeting on 19 October 2026.
According to the company, the handover reflects a shift from merger integration to operational delivery after the creation of the group and the setting of its strategic course. Leysen, who steered the board through the combination of DSM and Firmenich, will step down after Ridinger is elected.
Ridinger is already familiar with the business through his board role and brings experience across pharmaceuticals, home and personal care, and nutrition and health. The company said that background should help maintain continuity as DSM-Firmenich pursues margin improvement and the next stage of growth.
The transition follows a busy year in governance and portfolio restructuring. At the annual general meeting on 7 May, shareholders re-elected Leysen as chairman and approved all board proposals, including a €2.50 per share dividend. The board also signalled that the planned sale of the Animal Nutrition & Health business is nearing completion, while a refreshed executive committee is now in place.
