Alveo and Royal GD expand livestock diagnostics to combat faster disease spread
Alveo Technologies and Royal GD are expanding their point-of-need molecular diagnostics partnership into swine and cattle. Backed by additional R&D investment, the companies aim to develop rapid on-farm tests for a wider range of livestock diseases.
Alveo Technologies and Royal GD have widened their diagnostics alliance from poultry into swine and cattle, signalling that point-of-need molecular testing is moving further into mainstream livestock health management. The move builds on three years of collaboration and 18 months of commercial use of their on-farm avian influenza test, giving the partnership a live market base rather than a purely developmental one.
According to the companies, Royal GD will now commit additional research and development resources to speed assays on Alveo’s platform for more pathogens, while also extending the poultry range. The first wave of new work will target respiratory diseases and other infections across multiple species, with the aim of improving early detection and shortening the time between testing and intervention.
Alveo says its platform can return results in under an hour, a speed advantage that matters when outbreaks can spread before laboratory results arrive. The company is also enlarging its distributor network to improve local support and access to the Alveo Sense system, suggesting it wants to pair technology development with broader commercial reach.
The partnership reflects growing demand for on-farm diagnostics that help producers and veterinarians make faster containment decisions. For animal health suppliers, the commercial prize is not just a single test, but a wider shift towards routine molecular testing at the point of need.
