Zoetis announces phase-out of Eweguard sheep vaccine amid supply change and alternative protocols
Zoetis plans to withdraw its six-in-one Eweguard vaccine at the end of the year due to manufacturing changes, prompting farmers and vets to adopt dual-gun vaccination strategies with Cydectin and Ultravac 5in1 for continued parasite and disease control.
Zoetis says Eweguard, its six-in-one sheep vaccine, will be withdrawn at the end of this year because an external manufacturing partner will stop making it. For practices and producers that have relied on the product for combined parasite and clostridial control, the change means reviewing flock protocols now rather than waiting for supply to run out.
As an alternative, Zoetis is directing farmers towards a dual-gun approach that pairs Cydectin Injection with Ultravac 5in1 or Ultravac 5+1, allowing the two products to be given at the same time. The company says this is intended to cut handling stress while preserving timely parasite control and clostridial vaccination. Ultravac 5in1 is marketed for protection against key clostridial diseases in sheep and cattle, while Cydectin Injection is a moxidectin-based endectocide used against internal and external parasites in sheep and cattle.
For veterinarians, the practical message is familiar: flock-level parasite and clostridial programmes should be individualised, and product changes are best handled with a vaccination plan that accounts for boosters, lamb age, and local disease pressure. Merck Veterinary Manual guidance notes that many clostridial vaccines still require a follow-up dose to achieve solid protection, reinforcing the need to check timing when switching away from a combination product.
