PetIQ expands into muscle-health market with acquisition of MYOS Corp’s Fortetropin
PetIQ’s purchase of MYOS Corp’s muscle-health business introduces Fortetropin into its pet wellness portfolio, emphasising preventive care for mobility and ageing pets.
PetIQ has completed its purchase of MYOS Corp’s muscle-health business, bringing Fortetropin-based products into its wider pet health and wellness range. The deal, announced by PetIQ, was not accompanied by financial terms.
For veterinarians, the move matters because it gives a larger commercial platform to a product line positioned around mobility, convalescence and age-related muscle support. Fortetropin, MYOS says, is a patented bioactive ingredient derived from fertilised egg yolk and designed to influence myostatin, the protein that limits muscle growth. The company says it has been studied in dogs, cats and horses, as well as in human research, and has been used in both retail supplements and veterinary-exclusive formulations.
PetIQ chief executive Camillo Pane said the acquisition expands the company into what he described as a fast-growing muscle-health category, with a focus on preventive care rather than only post-injury treatment. MYOS chief executive Joe Mannello said PetIQ’s distribution network and brand-building capabilities should help the products reach more pet owners.
MYOS will remain a distinct brand, and Fortetropin will continue to be sold under its existing name. That continuity may appeal to clinics already familiar with the product line, especially in rehabilitation and geriatric care settings. PetIQ, backed by Bansk Group, said the MYOS business will sit within its broader portfolio of medications, supplements and wellness brands.
