Elanco has gained USDA approval for TruCan Ultra Lyme-L4, a groundbreaking small-dose vaccine for dogs that offers broad protection against Lyme disease and leptospirosis while reducing the number of injections needed, leveraging its innovative PureFil technology.

Elanco has secured USDA approval for TruCan Ultra Lyme-L4, a combination vaccine for dogs that protects against Lyme disease and leptospirosis. The company said it is the first and only 1/2 mL product of its kind, and that it offers the same broad protection as the 1 mL version while reducing the number of injections needed.

The vaccine uses Elanco’s PureFil technology, which the company says is designed to cut vaccination reactions linked to unwanted proteins. Elanco also said the smaller-dose format is intended to make prevention simpler for veterinarians, owners and pets, particularly in areas where tick-borne disease and leptospirosis remain a concern.

In the company’s materials, TruCan Ultra Lyme vaccines are said to have shown 92.2% efficacy against natural infection in highly endemic areas and 100% efficacy in laboratory studies. Elanco expects the product to begin shipping within 30 days of approval.
