Zoetis has launched Lenivia in Great Britain, introducing a long-acting monoclonal antibody treatment designed to alleviate osteoarthritis pain in dogs for up to three months from a single injection. The launch expands the company’s canine pain portfolio and offers veterinarians a longer-dosing option for managing the chronic condition.

Zoetis has widened its canine osteoarthritis offer in Britain with Lenivia, a long-acting injectable monoclonal antibody aimed at easing pain for up to three months at a time. The launch matters because osteoarthritis is a large, chronic market in veterinary medicine, and longer dosing intervals could improve adherence as pet populations age and ongoing management becomes more important.

Lenivia contains izenivetmab, which targets nerve growth factor, a molecule involved in pain signalling and inflammation. Zoetis says a nine-month European field study found sustained pain reduction, with effects emerging from seven days after the first injection.

The company estimates that nearly 40% of dogs may experience osteoarthritis pain, with consequences for mobility, sleep, behaviour and social interaction. That burden is likely to grow as advances in veterinary care and nutrition extend the lives of companion animals.

For Zoetis, the product strengthens an existing osteoarthritis portfolio and gives veterinary surgeons in Britain another option for dogs that need continuing pain control. Tim Burgess, general manager of Zoetis UK, said the condition is seen “every day in practice” and that the new treatment could make compliance easier for owners because of the longer interval between doses.
