Zenex Animal Health expands in India with third acquisition of SAVAVET to boost pet-care segment
Zenex Animal Health has strengthened its presence in India’s growing pet-care market by acquiring SAVA Healthcare’s companion animal business, SAVAVET, marking its third deal since partnering with Multiples Alternate Asset Management, and diversifying its animal health portfolio amid rising pet ownership and veterinary demand.
Zenex Animal Health has strengthened its position in India’s pet-care market by buying SAVA Healthcare’s companion animal business, SAVAVET, in its third acquisition since partnering with Multiples Alternate Asset Management. The deal adds scale in a fast-growing segment where rising pet ownership and preventive spending are reshaping demand for veterinary products and services. It also sharpens the strategic split between Zenex’s animal-health expansion and SAVA’s renewed focus on human pharmaceuticals and contract manufacturing.
According to the companies, SAVAVET brings about 70 brands spanning parasiticides, antibiotics, cardiac care, pain management, dermatology and wellness, supported by roughly 165 stockists and ties with more than 6,000 veterinarians across India. Zenex said the portfolio complements its existing reach across livestock, poultry, companion animals, herbal healthcare and overseas markets.
The acquisition follows Zenex’s earlier purchases of Ayurvet and VievePharm, the latter a Dutch natural-animal-nutrition specialist, signalling a broader strategy of building a diversified platform rather than a single-product business. For SAVA, the sale frees management to concentrate on human health formulations, research and development, international business and manufacturing contracts, while retaining its farm-animal operations.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Ernst & Young advised Zenex, while PwC advised SAVA.
