WellFish Tech, a Scottish-based biotech firm specialising in fish welfare technologies, has completed an oversubscribed interim financing round, reflecting surging investor interest amid its commercial progress and regulatory approvals in Norway.

WellFish Tech has completed an oversubscribed interim financing round, signalling continued appetite for aquaculture technologies aimed at reducing mortality and improving fish welfare. The Paisley-based biotechnology firm did not disclose the amount raised, but said investors from Norway, the UK and the European Union took part through venture capital, family offices and private investment networks.

The fundraising comes after a run of commercial progress, including agreements with aquaculture operators in Norway and Iceland and ongoing work across North America, South America, the UK and Ireland. According to the company, the latest backing reflects interest not only in its mortality prediction model, WellFish Predict, but also in a wider pipeline built around physiological biomarkers for health, welfare and quality assessment.

Erik Tveteraas, the group finance director appointed in July, said investor demand was being driven by customer feedback and the commercial value of earlier visibility on fish health risks. The company says its system can give farmers a 28-day mortality forecast using blood biochemistry and non-lethal sampling, with data underpinned by its own patents and compliant with Norwegian regulations.

SeafoodSource reported that WellFish has also secured regulatory approval in Norway and a commercial partnership with Salmon Group. The company said the financing supports expansion ahead of a planned Series A round in 2027.
