US FDA recalls feline milk replacers over vitamin deficiencies risking kitten health
The US Food and Drug Administration has announced a nationwide recall of Revival Animal Health’s Breeder’s Edge and Shelter’s Choice feline milk replacers due to identified deficiencies in essential vitamins, posing serious health risks to kittens.
The US Food and Drug Administration said Revival Animal Health is recalling Breeder’s Edge and Shelter’s Choice feline milk replacers after testing found some lots contained low levels of potassium, copper, folic acid, choline and/or pyridoxine, or vitamin B6.
The agency said the deficiency could pose serious risks for kittens, whose rapid development leaves them especially vulnerable to anaemia, neurological impairment, liver failure, kidney damage, skeletal disease and cardiac problems. Signs may emerge within days or weeks, and consumers whose kittens have consumed the affected products and are unwell have been told to contact a veterinarian.
Revival said it had received nine complaints suggesting possible gastrointestinal and bone-development issues, though no illnesses have been confirmed. The company said the recall followed third-party test results from one lot, after which it carried out confirmatory testing on multiple lots. An independent animal nutritionist reviewed the results on 12 August 2026, prompting the voluntary action.
The products were sold nationwide online and through pet retailers in resealable bags and 12 oz jars. Customers are being asked to stop using the products immediately and seek a refund. Revival has also ended its relationship with the contracted manufacturer.
