Nofence’s new cattle collar revolutionises livestock management with integrated virtual fencing and herd health tools
The Minnesota-based firm launches a durable, solar-powered cattle collar that combines comprehensive herd health tracking, pasture control, and connectivity options, offering farmers a unified operational system.
Nofence has introduced its N3 cattle collar, positioning the device as the centrepiece of a wider livestock management system that combines virtual fencing, herd health tracking and pasture control in one app.
The St Paul, Minnesota-based company says the new collar is lighter and more robust than earlier versions, and is backed by a 10-year warranty. It is designed for harsh terrain and temperature swings, with a solar-charged battery intended to keep working in low-light conditions such as valleys, forests and northern winters.
According to Nofence, the platform uses three layers of connectivity: cellular, its HerdNet collar-to-collar network and satellite backup. That matters for ranches beyond mobile coverage, where the company argues traditional digital tools can be impractical without costly infrastructure.
The system also folds in reproductive management, including heat-cycle scoring and calving alerts, alongside grazing data and boundary-setting tools. Nofence says the aim is to give producers a single operational view of cattle and land, rather than forcing them to piece together separate systems.
Chief executive Joachim Kähler said the launch reflects customer demand for broader decision-making tools. West Texas producer Tyler Chesshir, who manages 200 Corriente-cross cow-calf pairs on 15,000 acres, said the app has helped him intensify grazing and make use of forage that would otherwise be underused.
