Morocco’s ONSSA announces a nationwide free rabies vaccination initiative for cats and dogs in cities throughout September 2026, aiming to enhance rabies prevention and control.

According to Hespress, Morocco’s National Office for Food Safety, known as ONSSA, will run a free rabies vaccination drive for owned dogs and cats in urban areas throughout September 2026, in partnership with the National Order of Veterinarians.

The campaign, timed to coincide with World Rabies Day, will take place from 1 to 30 September in private veterinary clinics whose owners have volunteered to participate. Pet owners are being asked to confirm appointments in advance, as each clinic will set its own schedule.

ONSSA said the initiative is aimed at strengthening rabies prevention and control, while limiting the risk of transmission in towns and cities. It applies only to animals aged at least three months that are in sufficiently good health to be vaccinated.

Owners must bring identification, any available vaccination booklet or animal health document, and details such as the animal’s name, age and microchip number, if available. The authorities also advise that dogs be restrained safely, with muzzles used where necessary, and that cats be carried in suitable cages or transport bags.

For schedules, participating clinics and booking arrangements, ONSSA referred the public to the veterinary order’s official portal or provincial veterinary services.
