Jaguar Health secures FDA fee waivers to bolster rare-disease pipeline development
Jaguar Health has secured an FDA fee waiver for Canalevia-CA1, its treatment for chemotherapy-induced diarrhoea in dogs. The company also received fee relief for human drug Mytesi as it shifts more of its development focus towards rare diseases.
Jaguar Health has won federal fee waivers for two existing products, trimming a small but useful cost burden while it pushes deeper into rare-disease development. The approvals matter less for immediate revenue than for signalling that the company is still keeping its commercial legacy assets in play as it redirects attention and capital towards intestinal failure. For a small biotechnology group, that balance between maintenance and pipeline ambition can determine how long it can fund the next stage of development.
According to the company, the Food and Drug Administration waived the 2027 user fee for Mytesi, its crofelemer tablet for non-infectious diarrhoea in adults with HIV/AIDS on antiretroviral therapy, and separately waived a fee for Canalevia-CA1, the veterinary treatment for chemotherapy-induced diarrhoea in dogs.
Both products are marketed in the US by Future Pak, which earlier this year struck a licensing deal giving it exclusive sales rights. Jaguar said at the time that the agreement brought an $18mn upfront payment and could deliver up to $20mn more in milestones, while leaving manufacturing with the company.
The fee relief arrives as Jaguar and its affiliates work on crofelemer powder for oral solution for microvillus inclusion disease and short bowel syndrome. The firm is targeting an NDA filing for MVID in mid-2027, a timetable that suggests the group is still many quarters away from any major regulatory catalyst.
