IDEXX Laboratories enhances veterinary software with AI acquisition to reinforce diagnostics linkages
IDEXX Laboratories has acquired veterinary AI company CoVetAI, strengthening its veterinary software portfolio with ambient listening and clinical workflow technology. The acquisition is intended to reduce administrative work and support more efficient clinical documentation in veterinary practices.
IDEXX Laboratories has acquired veterinary artificial intelligence company CoVetAI, adding ambient listening and clinical workflow technology to its growing portfolio of software tools for veterinary practices.
The acquisition brings CoVetAI’s AI-powered technology into IDEXX’s veterinary software business. CoVetAI develops tools designed to support clinical documentation and workflows, including ambient listening technology that can capture information from veterinary consultations and help turn it into structured medical records.
IDEXX said the technology is intended to reduce administrative work for veterinary teams and support clinicians in managing patient information. The company plans to integrate CoVetAI’s capabilities across its software ecosystem, alongside its existing diagnostic and practice management products.
The deal builds on IDEXX’s expansion in veterinary software in recent years. In 2021, the company acquired cloud-based practice management software provider ezyVet, adding to a portfolio that also includes veterinary software and digital workflow solutions used by practices in a number of markets.
IDEXX has also outlined principles for the use of artificial intelligence across its products, stating that AI should support veterinary professionals while leaving clinical judgement and decision-making with the veterinarian.
Financial terms of the CoVetAI acquisition were not disclosed.
