Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has increased nationwide inspections of veterinary drug and vaccine outlets to enforce licensing, safeguard livestock, and enhance public health measures amidst ongoing sector oversight.

Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation said the General Authority for Veterinary Services stepped up inspections in August across veterinary drug and vaccine outlets and clinics nationwide, as part of a wider effort to tighten oversight of the sector and keep unsafe products out of circulation.

Dr Hamid Al-Aqnas, head of the authority, said inspection teams from veterinary directorates, working with the Environmental and Water Police, checked 562 establishments and found 142 breaches, ranging from unlicensed activity to the absence of a responsible veterinarian.

Authorities issued 32 administrative closure orders covering 106 offending premises in governorates including Dakahlia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Beni Suef, Gharbia, Giza, Cairo and Beheira. They also filed 30 misdemeanour reports in Kafr El-Sheikh and Beheira, plus three administrative reports in Qalyubia and Beni Suef. Three centres in Gharbia and Beni Suef were closed after security assessments by the relevant authorities.

The ministry said the campaign is designed to protect livestock health and support vaccination and prevention programmes. It urged veterinary centres and clinics to regularise their status and avoid handling medicines or vaccines of unknown origin or lacking official registration.

The drive follows a pattern of stepped-up veterinary enforcement in recent years, including broader inspections of meat and food markets aimed at protecting public health.
