Dechra reintroduces Canaural to the UK veterinary market after four-year hiatus
Dechra Veterinary Products has brought back Canaural, a multi-action ear treatment for dogs and cats, after a four-year absence, offering an established solution for recurrent otitis externa and ear mite cases.
Dechra Veterinary Products has put Canaural back on the UK veterinary market after a long absence, restoring a familiar option for the treatment of otitis externa in dogs and cats.
According to veterinary trade reports, the product had not been available since 2019. Its return matters because Canaural combines fusidic acid, framycetin and nystatin, giving it antibacterial and antifungal activity in one formulation. The corticosteroid prednisolone adds anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic action, while the sesame oil base is intended to help the treatment spread through the ear canal.
The company says Canaural is supplied through veterinary wholesalers in 15ml and 25ml bottles and is designed for straightforward dosing of otic liquid. Dechra’s own product information also notes that it is used in cases involving Otodectes cynotis, the ear mite seen in some pets.
The relaunch sits alongside Dechra’s broader ear-care offer. The company has previously promoted the Healthy Ears Combi Kit, which was designed to help practices dispense Canaural with CleanAural and to support owners through the treatment process.
For practices dealing with recurrent ear disease, the return of a multi-action product with established recognition may be useful, particularly where mixed bacterial and yeast involvement is suspected.
