Dechra expands canine cancer portfolio with US launch of Laverdia
Dechra has launched Laverdia in the US following full FDA approval earlier this year. The oral treatment offers a new at-home option for dogs with lymphoma, including those not receiving conventional chemotherapy.
Dechra has made Laverdia (verdinexor tablets) commercially available in the US following full FDA approval earlier this year, expanding treatment options for one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in dogs.
The twice-weekly oral therapy can be administered at home and used from diagnosis, while owners consider further treatment, ahead of multi-agent chemotherapy, following relapse or when conventional chemotherapy is not preferred. Dechra estimates that only around 20% of dogs diagnosed with lymphoma currently receive chemotherapy, highlighting a sizeable treatment gap.
Laverdia works by preventing tumour-suppressing proteins from leaving the cell nucleus, helping disrupt cancer-cell survival. The drug has demonstrated activity in both B-cell and T-cell lymphoma.
The launch also broadens the role primary-care veterinarians can play in canine oncology. By providing an oral treatment that does not initially require referral to a specialist oncology centre, Dechra is targeting owners seeking a more accessible treatment pathway while retaining the option to transition to other therapies.
Laverdia received conditional FDA approval in 2021 before gaining full approval in January 2026 after additional effectiveness data were submitted. Its US commercial launch now moves the product from regulatory milestone to wider clinical availability, strengthening Dechra’s position in the growing veterinary specialty and oncology market.
