Cronus Pharma introduces the first FDA-approved generic injectable version of robenacoxib for veterinary use in the US, aiming to provide a lower-cost alternative for managing postoperative pain in dogs and cats.

Cronus Pharma has brought to the US market what it says is the first FDA-approved generic injectable version of robenacoxib for veterinary use, targeting postoperative pain and inflammation in dogs and cats.

According to the company, Robenacoxib Injection is a bioequivalent to Onsior Injection and is being distributed through national and regional veterinary channels. The treatment is authorised for dogs aged four months and older after soft tissue surgery, and for cats of the same age after orthopaedic procedures, ovariohysterectomy or castration. Use is limited to a maximum of three days.

The FDA said the approval marks the first generic injectable robenacoxib. The agency has also approved a generic tablet form for cats, underlining a broader move towards lower-cost alternatives in veterinary analgesia.

Scott A. Krick, a consulting technical services veterinarian at Cronus Pharma, said in the company announcement that managing post-operative pain is essential in both species and that the product is intended to widen access to an NSAID option at lower cost.

Cronus, based in East Brunswick, is a privately held animal health drugmaker focused on generic products. The label carries standard veterinary restrictions, including use only by or under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
