London-founded Breedr, now based in Texas, secures €23 million in Series B funding to expand digital cattle management and incorporate genomic information, aiming to enhance efficiency and traceability in the beef sector.

Breedr, the livestock technology group founded in London and now based in Texas, has raised €23 million in Series B funding as it seeks to digitise more of the cattle business and widen its data set to include genomic information. The round was led by Partech’s impact fund, with Latitude, LocalGlobe’s growth vehicle, and Outsiders Fund also participating. Total funding now stands at €39.9 million.

The company, founded in 2018 by Ian Wheal, runs a platform that combines herd-management software, a verified cattle marketplace and finance linked to livestock. Breedr says each animal carries a digital identity from birth through processing, allowing producers to track weight, health and lineage across the multiple farms an animal may pass through.

Wheal said the business was designed to return more value to ranchers at a time when beef demand is rising and cattle numbers are tight. Breedr says it already has more than two million cattle on its system and has facilitated close to €428 million of livestock transactions this year.

Axios reported that the company serves more than 2,000 ranchers globally and handles nearly $500 million in annualised trading volume. The financing comes as investors continue to back software and supply-chain tools aimed at making agriculture more efficient, traceable and, in Breedr’s case, lower in emissions.
