Celebrating 25 years, the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation is emphasising sustained collaborations over one-off grants to create more lasting social change across healthcare, disaster relief, STEM mentoring, and animal health initiatives.

The Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation is marking 25 years with a sharper emphasis on partnerships, moving beyond one-off grants towards longer-term collaborations it says can deliver more durable social impact.

Established in 2001, the foundation has widened its remit across healthcare access, disaster response, STEM education and animal health. According to Boehringer Ingelheim, the evolution reflects a broader lesson: charitable giving matters, but systems change requires working with organisations that understand local needs and constraints.

That approach is visible in Connecticut, where a clinic partnership with Americares began in 2005 and later expanded into the Boehringer Ingelheim Americares Free Clinic of Danbury. The foundation says 635 patients received care through the alliance in 2025, while 11,800 people gained access to donated medicines at no cost.

Its disaster work has also become more operational. Boehringer Ingelheim says it prepositions supplies and supports partners including Greater Good Charities, Direct Relief, World Central Kitchen and Americares. During Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, it says more than $2 million in products reached over 8,000 people and animals.

The company also points to STEM mentoring and veterinary support as longer-term investments. In animal health, Boehringer Ingelheim said it donated more than two million doses in 2024 to 169 non-profits and shelters across the US.
