BiomEdit has acquired Folium Science’s technology platform and pipeline assets, strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving field of precision animal health. The deal adds both an approved poultry product in Brazil and a complementary CRISPR-based microbiome technology, expanding the company’s capabilities across animal health and nutrition.

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 25, 2026 – Animal health biotechnology company BiomEdit has acquired Folium Science’s technology platform and pipeline assets, including BiomElix® One, a poultry feed additive already approved for commercial use in Brazil. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition significantly expands BiomEdit’s portfolio of precision microbiome technologies and supports the company’s strategy of developing Programmable Veterinary Biologics™, engineered microbial products designed to perform targeted biological functions in livestock and companion animals.

A key element of the deal is Folium’s Guided Biotics® CRISPR-Cas platform, which selectively targets specific bacterial populations within the microbiome while preserving beneficial microbial communities. The technology complements BiomEdit’s existing approach of engineering beneficial bacteria to deliver specific health and production benefits. “Together, these scientific approaches give us a broader set of tools to address important animal health and production challenges,” said Aaron Schacht, chief executive officer of BiomEdit.

The combined portfolio gives BiomEdit two advanced poultry programs built on distinct precision microbiome technologies. Its lead candidate, BE-101, is in the final stages of conditional licensure review by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the prevention of mortality associated with necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens. Meanwhile, BiomElix® One has already secured approval from Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

Folium co-founder Ed Fuchs said BiomEdit’s scientific expertise and development capabilities make it the right organization to advance the technology and unlock its commercial potential.

Founded in 2022, BiomEdit is backed by investors including Anterra Capital, Viking Global Investors, Nutreco, AgriZeroNZ, Elevate Ventures and Betagro Ventures.
