BioCV introduces its AI-powered sow monitoring platform to North America, enabling early intervention through real-time data on temperature, movement, and behaviour to enhance animal welfare and productivity.

BioCV has brought its intelligent sow monitoring system to North America, targeting a perennial challenge in pig production: spotting health and reproductive issues early enough to act on them. According to the company’s announcement, the platform combines a smart ear tag with machine-learning analytics to track each animal’s temperature, movement and behaviour in real time.

The company says the system is designed to flag the earliest signs of heat, fever, farrowing and lameness, giving producers a better basis for breeding decisions and for managing care before, during and after parturition. In practice, that could help reduce missed breeding windows, improve farrowing supervision and keep pig flow more predictable.

Industry coverage from AgriNews, High Plains Journal and other livestock outlets says the launch is aimed at improving not only animal welfare and reproductive performance, but also labour efficiency and overall herd productivity. BioCV GmbH developed the technology, while BioCV Inc. is marketing it in North America.

The pitch reflects a wider push in livestock farming towards sensor-led management and data-driven intervention. For producers facing tighter margins and labour constraints, the value lies less in the hardware itself than in turning continuous animal data into actionable decisions.
