Three of the sector’s largest names appeared at Morgan Stanley’s 24th Annual Global Healthcare Conference on 14 September, with Zoetis fielding both its CEO and newly appointed CFO, Merck sending its chair and research chief, and IDEXX reaffirming long-term growth targets. The timing matters: it is the first major investor forum since a Q2 earnings season that split the sector sharply between guidance raisers and guidance cutters.

Zoetis took the 1:50 p.m. ET slot, with chief executive Kristin Peck appearing alongside chief financial officer Jay Saccaro — his first significant investor outing since joining the company on 17 August in the newly created combined CFO and COO role. The pairing is notable. Zoetis cut full-year revenue guidance to $9.12–$9.32 billion at its Q2 results and has seen its share price fall from a 52-week high of $172.23 to trade in the mid-$70s, while multiple securities class actions proceed. Saccaro arrives with twelve years of CFO experience across GE HealthCare and Baxter International, and his presence signals an emphasis on operational discipline and capital allocation as much as portfolio narrative.

Merck followed at 3:20 p.m. ET, with chair and chief executive Robert Davis joined by Dean Li, head of Merck Research Laboratories. Placing animal health at the centre of its investor pitch, describing the unit as best-in-class and said it could more than double over the coming decade. The claim rests on a consistent recent record: $1.78 billion in Q2 2026 revenue at 8% growth, following 13% growth in Q1, and $6.4 billion across full-year 2025 — with livestock demand across ruminant and poultry portfolios alongside new companion animal launches driving performance.

The growth ambition is being backed by transactions as well as organic momentum. Merck acquired Elanco’s aquaculture business for $1.29 billion in 2024, secured FDA approval for BRAVECTO QUANTUM, a once-yearly injectable canine parasiticide, in 2025, and signed a definitive agreement to acquire biodevice innovator TARGAN in August 2026. Davis confirmed the same business-development discipline applied across the group’s pharmaceutical operations is now being used in animal health deal selection.

For a company managing an eventual KEYTRUDA patent cliff, a division growing at high single digits with structural exposure to global protein demand and pet ownership carries strategic weight well beyond its current 10.7% share of group revenue.

IDEXX used the forum to reaffirm its long-term growth targets — a straightforward message from the one sector name that ended the Q2 reporting week clearly ahead, having beaten consensus EPS at $4.07 and raised full-year guidance to $14.69–$14.94.

The three appearances together offer investors a rare same-day read across the sector: a diagnostics business compounding steadily, a diversified pharmaceutical group leaning on animal health as ballast, and a market leader working to rebuild confidence after a difficult year.
