American Regent recalls four lots of Adequan over glass fibre contamination concerns
American Regent, Inc. Animal Health has initiated a nationwide recall of four lots of Adequan after samples revealed glass fibres, raising safety concerns over injectable veterinary products for dogs and horses.
American Regent, Inc. Animal Health is recalling four lots of Adequan after internally retained samples showed glass fibres, raising concerns about particulate contamination in injectable veterinary products.
The affected batches comprise two lots of Adequan Canine Injection, used in dogs for non-infectious degenerative or traumatic joint dysfunction, and two lots of Adequan i.m. Injection for horses, which is given for similar joint conditions and associated lameness. The company said the products are administered intramuscularly by, or under the direction of, a licensed veterinarian.
According to the recall notice, injecting a product containing glass fibres could lead to local irritation, swelling, inflammation, pain at the injection site, infection or abscess formation. No adverse events had been reported when the recall was announced.
The recalled products were distributed nationwide to veterinary practices, wholesalers, distributors and online pharmacies. The canine lots were shipped in May 2024 and April 2025, while the equine lots were distributed in May 2025 and January 2026.
Veterinary professionals have been told to check lot numbers carefully and follow the recall instructions before any use. The action follows a series of recent American Regent recalls, underscoring the scrutiny now being placed on particulate contamination in injectable medicines.
