ADM’s PRIOME Metabolic Health wins Pet Innovation Award amid rising focus on gut microbiome in pet obesity care
ADM has secured the Dog Preventative Product of the Year at the 2026 Pet Innovation Awards for its PRIOME Metabolic Health postbiotic, signalling a shift towards microbiome-focused solutions in addressing pet obesity and metabolic health.
ADM has won Dog Preventative Product of the Year at the 2026 Pet Innovation Awards for PRIOME Metabolic Health, a heat-treated Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis CECT 8145 postbiotic aimed at supporting canine metabolic function.
The award reflects a wider shift in pet care. According to the Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association’s 2023 obesity report, excess weight remains a growing concern in pets, while veterinary research has argued that calorie control and exercise alone may not fully address the physiological and metabolic changes linked to obesity. Studies in veterinary and food science journals also suggest the gut microbiome is increasingly relevant to canine weight and metabolic health, and that postbiotics offer advantages because they remain stable across different processing conditions.
ADM says PRIOME MH is designed to help support blood glucose levels, metabolic balance and vitality, with the practical benefit that it can be formulated into chews, powders, liquids, baked products and extruded supplements.
James Kyffin, ADM’s global director of pet and animal wellbeing, said pet owners are looking for products that can help extend the healthy years of their animals’ lives. The Pet Innovation Awards, now in their eighth year, recognise products and services judged to be advancing the pet care sector.
